Our History

In 2008, Jack and Jenn McComas began to ask the Father, “Is there anything You would like us to help You with?” The goal was to find out what pleased Him. An invitation to open the “Dayton Student House of Prayer” was given to Jack & Jenn, each individually, in January 2009 at a Call to All event in Dayton, OH. Together they said “Yes” even though they knew nothing at all about a House of Prayer or what would be ahead.

SHOP, the nickname the Dayton Student House of Prayer fondly received, held our first prayer meeting Saturday, July 10, 2010 from 9-11pm in Jack and Jenn’s home. SHOP grew and the McComas’s remodeled to make room. The ministry continued to meet there in the McComas’ remodeled garage/family room from 2010 – 2015, learning as we went just what our house of prayer meant to Jesus.

Saturday night prayer meetings – called Abide - were attended mostly by young people. The time offered a 2 hour block of prayer, worship and encounter. On Tuesday night’s leaders gathered for Watchmen meetings where we would share all God was saying and doing in our lives. A large chalkboard hung in the prayer room for those five years and people would sign up to pray in the prayer room for various blocks of time – both day and through the night. Friends from other ministries came to teach us messages about intercession, about the bride of Christ and about end times. The presence of God at all our gatherings was tangible but parking and space were very limited.

In 2014, we began to pray for more parking. God heard and sent us a check for $300,000 from a donor who had no part in Dayton SHOP. With cash, SHOP purchased a building on Mapleview Drive in Beavercreek, OH. Renovations were completed by our staff and our first meeting in the new space was March 7, 2015.

Worship and prayer sets began to multiply along with classes, training, camps, prayer retreats, music recordings, writings and mission work. A Tuesday night class called New Depths was highly attended, giving people a space for deep worship, biblical meditation and prophetic practice and anointed teaching. Our Saturday night Abide set moved to 7-9pm to adjust to the needs of a now multi-generational House, including an increasing crowd of young children.

Anthems from the Outpost Volume 1 (Jack McComas) was recorded in our prayer room in 2017 with a live band and no production edits. Mommy & Me brought our littlest ones into a prayer meeting of their own each Friday and our weekly Kids Set gave school-aged students a chance to lead prayer and worship in a corporate setting. Prophetic and inner healing ministries were a huge part of the years here at Mapleview Ave, as folks from all over Ohio would sign up for prophetic prayer sessions on Saturday nights. Angelic encounters, dreams, visions and prophetic songs/words began to rapidly increase as our community grew in faith for God’s voice in their everyday life. After participating for six years with friends leading the Ohio Signs & Wonders Camp, in 2018 SHOP assumed leadership of the camp and directed a camp of over 100 that summer.

In December 2018, God made it clear He wanted SHOP to move into inner city Dayton. Following this lead, the building at Mapleview was put up for sale and was pending within a month. The Lord brought our attention to 212 S Ludlow St and the building was purchased for the minimum bid at Sheriff’s auction in Summer 2019. Renovations for this historic building were completed December 2020. SHOP began holding gatherings at the building in January of 2021. SHOP held its Ludlow St. Official Grand Opening on September 26th of 2021.

We cannot wait to do everything with Jesus in the next 10 years.
